When you lose a pet, you lose a family member

One doesn't realize how much a pet can affect your lives until you lose him/her. Unfortunately, we have felt loss recently when both of our dogs, Sammy and Chloe were tragically lost to us the day after Christmas. Not much can prepare you for the loss of a loved one, including a pet. What we do know is that it's important to have a support circle filled with people who understand your loss. Many of our pet loving friends helped us deal with the loss with words of encouragement, uplifting stories and condolences. We will never forget Sammy and Chloe and the joy they brought our family with their loyalty, devotion and never wavering love and protection. We will always have them in our hearts and they will live forever in our memories. The following poem was given to us and was read as we laid them to rest...

"My Dog"

I wonder if Christ had a little old dog
All shiny and silky like mine?
And a nose round and wet
With two cute little ears
And two little ears
And two eyes brown and tender that shine

I'm sure if He had, that that little dog
Knew right from the start He was God;
That he needed no proof that Christ was divine
And just worshiped the ground where He trod.

I'm afraid that He hadn't, because I have read,
How He prayed in the garden alone.
For all of His friends and disciples had fled
Even Peter, the one called stone.

And Ok! I am sure, that that little dog,
With a heart so tender and warm
Would never have left Him to suffer alone
But creeping right under His arm,
Would have licked his dear fingers,
In agony clasped, and counting all the favors but loss,
When they took Him away would have trotted behind,
And followed Him right to the cross.

Introducing our new Crop Circles Pawd for dogs and cats. This is such a fun fabric, ultra soft minky sage green and chocolate brown fabric with coordinating sage rosette faux fur. You won't believe how soft this fabric is. As always, we have matching blankets in 2 sizes.

In today's economy, people want to be sure their money is well spent. Let me tell you what makes our pawds a worthy investment. Pictures truly do not do our products justice. You really need to feel and touch them to appreciate the plushness. Not only are the fabrics soft, we searched high and low for the ultimate polyester fiber to fill our pawds. Over the years, I purchased numerous pet beds from pet boutiques and large chain stores and nothing frustrated me more than when it came to washing the beds. The beds never held up in the wash. Not to mention how dissapointed I would be when I saw what the stuffing looked like, most of the stuffing resembled something that came out of my vaccuum cleaner. So when I found a 100% hypoallergenic virgin polyester stuffing for our pawds that did not shift or bunch in the wash, I knew our beds would hold up wash after wash. And they do. We have customers that wash their pawds weekly and they look just as good as they did the day they purchased it. A Savanna on the Horizon

Introducing our newest pawd design, "Savanna". I love every single pawd I design, and I have several favorites, but this one is my ultimate favorite thus far. The perfect pairing of the brown and baby pink minky zebra print with the ultra soft baby pink faux fur are irresistible. Of course we have the blanket to match. I am tempted to make a comforter in this combination for my bed, but I'm afraid my husband won't approve of the pink. ;)

There are a lot of exciting things in the works at LPPB, we just introduced carrier size blankets (11x23) to match all of our pawd designs. They are the perfect size for the bottom of a carrier or sling, or just as a comfort blankie for teacups and puppies. Plus we have several products underway that will compliment our current catalog. Brownies Anyone?

Who doesn't love a brownie? In my house, brownies are a year around favorite. When I saw this fabric, for some reason I thought of warm just out of the oven brownies. Maybe it's the rich dark chocolate oh so soft fabric paired nicely with my favorite paisley print in mocha and blush pink. Something about it reminds me of chocolate cherry chunk brownies... yum yum. Isn't it tempting?

In case you haven't guessed it, I love fabric. Time literally stands still when I'm shopping for new fabric. I can spend hours upon hours touching and feeling all the plush fabrics until I find the one I can't live without and it will feel like only minutes have passed. We just came back from the Los Angeles International Textile Show held at the California Market Center and I can tell you there are some new and exciting pawd designs underway! We will be retiring some of our older designs to make room for the new line soon. We plan on releasing the new pawds and blankets in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and be prepared to be wowed.

We have been having several small earthquakes in our area lately which is normal since we are very close to the San Andreas fault in California. But nothing puts the fear of "the big one" in the forefront of my mind like a little shake, rattle and roll. With this in mind, I have been researching all that we need to do in the event of a disaster. Between our wild fires and earthquakes, we have to be prepared for the worst. Part of this preparation is making sure we have the necessities not only for ourselves but for our pets. Here is what I found:

The Humane Society recommends we create a Pet Disaster Kit. Items that should be included are:

• Food, water and medicines for five days.

• Medical and veterinary records.

• Carrier, toys, blanket or bed

• Litter box and litter.

• ID attached to your pet.

• Pet carrier and/or leash.

• Current photos of pet with physical description.

• Container to carry everything.

And of course the most important thing we can do to protect our pets during a disaster is to take them with us if we are evacuated. Pets left behind can easily be injured, lost or killed.

To learn more about disaster preparedness visit the Humane Society and American Red Cross websites. It's never a bad thing to be prepared.

Spotlight: Friends of LPPB

People say you are only as good as the company you keep, I sure hope that's true for us. As I mentioned in my previous post, through the years we have developed strong personal and professional relationships with some really great people in the pet industry. People who give from the bottom of their heart and never ask for anything back. People who inspire you to be a better person and to "pay it forward". One of these people dear to my heart is Sheri Gaber. Let me tell you about my friend Sheri. I met Sheri through an online pet industry group a couple of years ago, we hit it off immediately and we have worked together ever since. One of Sheri's many talents is product photo editing, she edits all of the photos you see on our website. Several of us in the pet industry go to Sheri to help make our great products look even better online. Sheri also devotes countless hours to Crested Guardians, a rescue organization devoted to saving Chinese Cresteds (more to come about CG in the coming weeks). I don't make it a habit of handing out endorsements easily, but Sheri is an exception. Sheri's photo editing is fantastic, she pays strict attention to detail and provides excellent customer service. You have to have the "patience of Job" to do photo editing. Unfortunately, patience is a virtue I do not possess, thus I am ever grateful for Sheri. Check out her website and tell her LPPB sent you!

When we started LPPB, we knew we would develop long lasting relationships with our loyal customers, but what we did not realize is that we would also develop meaningful friendships with other designers in the industry. Through these relationships, we have created a invaluable support system that fosters creative development and encourages growth. Tidbit: Decisions...Decisions...Decisions

With spring here, it's time to change things up a little around the house. I've been staring at our pawds trying to decide which ones to pick for our resident bed testers, Chloe and Sammy. Honestly, it's hard to pick just one pawd. As you know, when it comes to pets, beds are not just for night time, Chloe and Sammy spend most of their day napping so a bed in every room is a necessity. They fit comfortably together in a cinched medium pawd and since I'm totally in love with our paisley prints, I've narrowed it down to three. The Pistachio Pawd for the bedroom, the Posh Pawd for the living room and the Queenie Pawd for my office. Since we added large pawds to the catalog, I just need to decide which one I want for myself!

Just a little background on LPPB: We were established in March 2005 after my family welcomed home a sweet little maltese-poodle mix, Chloe. Like all puppies, Chloe was a handful and required much spoiling. :) Before long, I dusted off my sewing machine and started designing clothing and bedding for Chloe and soon thereafter all my friends and acquaintances with small dogs wanted special beds for their furbabies as well. So with the help of my mother and partner, Marian, LPPB was formed and together we built the LPPB brand you know today.
